Urban Coders Guild Joins National Computer Science Education Community to Announce New Commitment in Equity-Focused CS Education

Urban Coders Guild Joins 143 New Commitments from Schools, Nonprofits, Universities, and Companies Across the Nation to Strengthen the Computer Science Education Movement

Tulsa, OK; Thursday, October 24, 2024 – Today, Urban Coders Guild proudly joins CSforALL in announcing 143 commitments from 136 organizations within the computer science education community. This community includes schools, school districts, nonprofits, universities, curriculum providers, researchers, and corporate partners, all dedicated to advancing high-quality, equitable computer science (CS) education across the United States. As part of its eighth annual summit, CSforALL invites leaders to move beyond theory and take action toward transforming K–12 CS education, empowering the next generation of creators, innovators, and problem-solvers. A visual representation of 2024’s Commitment Highlights can be viewed here.

Urban Coders Guild’s commitment is focused on Increasing Equitable Access and Outcomes for Tulsa’s youth. By Summer 2025, we will deliver 120 hours of rigorous CS instruction to 250 middle and high school students in Tulsa, using high-quality curricula and hands-on learning to spark engagement and empower students with essential tech skills. This commitment reflects Urban Coders Guild’s mission of providing meaningful access to computer science for underserved and underrepresented youth, paving the way for greater diversity and inclusion in the tech workforce.

CSforALL commitments are carefully crafted, measurable actions designed to promote a sustainable K-12 computer science education system both in and out of school. The public commitment model allows leaders to address critical needs in CS education and highlights solutions for achieving national CS goals. Commitment makers in 2024 were encouraged to choose among four key categories: Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC), Increasing Equitable Access and Outcomes, Building Capacity, and Raising Awareness.

Since 2017, 1,699 commitments have been announced, celebrated, and reported at the CSforALL Summit. This year’s three-day gathering, held in Milwaukee and hosted by Marquette University and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, brings together leaders from across the nation to discuss innovative strategies for equity, access, and meaningful engagement in CS education under the theme “Leading Action to Impact.”
