Kaleb Vaughn
Kaleb is a proud native of North Tulsa, Oklahoma, a community she describes as "rich in culture, resilience, and untapped potential." Her educational journey began at Carver Middle School and Booker T. Washington High School, institutions that laid the foundation for her commitment to education and representation. Kaleb earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Grambling State University, initially aiming toward a career in pharmacy. However, a transformative conversation during her senior year redirected her path toward education.
At a university career fair, Kaleb spoke with science educators who highlighted the critical need for Black STEM teachers and leaders who could "reflect the potential of their students and show them that they, too, belonged in science." This conversation ignited a passion in Kaleb, shifting her purpose toward empowering the next generation through STEM education.
Kaleb dedicated five impactful years teaching science, witnessing firsthand how representation in the classroom could transform students' confidence and aspirations. As she reflects, "Teaching wasn’t just a job; it was my purpose. I loved every moment—the lessons, the relationships, the impact." Her belief in education as a powerful tool for change inspired her to further her expertise through a Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Curriculum, and Leadership from the University of Oklahoma, equipping her to develop inclusive, strategic, and impactful programs.
Today, as Program Manager at Urban Coders Guild, Kaleb continues her mission to empower students through meaningful STEM experiences. She emphasizes, "UCG’s mission aligns perfectly with the work I loved in the classroom—creating access, fostering confidence, and equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in STEM." Kaleb sees her work as deeply personal and foundational to building a more inclusive tech ecosystem, describing Urban Coders Guild as "not just an organization, but a movement—a commitment to breaking cycles, creating generational impact, and empowering young minds through STEM."
